Notes, News, & Reviews

Tarpon season is almost upon us and with any luck this year you'll be the guy chest-deep in the water cradling a beautiful silver king for that once-in-a-lifetime photo. In an effort to reduce injuries to fish (and anglers!) fewer and fewer guides are keen on pulling a big tarpon into the boat for a pic, and certainly not to try and weigh it. That's a good thing for many reasons, not the least of which is preserving your fashion integrity for the rest of the day! If you've never handled a big tarpon before, know that the end result is usually a serious sliming not unlike those suffered by Will Smith and and Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black. So how do you know just how big that bad boy really was? The good folks at the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust sent us this weight calculation card which most seasoned anglers agree is pretty darn accurate. Just remember to bring a measuring tape.
