Right from its inception in 2006 the Palometa Club stood out from other fishing operations by focusing on permit as its target species, and it has built a well-deserved reputation as the place to go if you wish to catch one on the fly. Utilized an extremely talented and stable corp of local Mayan lobster fisherman as guides and a fishing program that features a one-to-one guide to angler ratio (two guides and two angler per boat), the lodge has turned the pursuit of permit into an art, landing their 500th fish in April of 2011.
Much of the lodge's equity comes from it friendly, efficient staff and its strong management by owners Dick and Kaye Cameron who have grown the operation with dedicated passion based on customer service. The lodge features 24-hour power, air conditioning and satellite Internet, all of which are uncommon for the area. Its often lauded dinner menu of freah seafood and local Mayan specialties compliments it's fabulous outdoor bar - one of the more popular gathering spots in the tiny rural fishing village of Punta Allen.
The Palometa Club has a strong standing in the local community and works hard to share in its success. It employes only local residents for all positions on its staff, including its illustrious cadre of guides, most of whom started with the lodge when it first opened and have made a great livelihood from it ever since. The Palometa Club is an excellent example of a commercial American fishing entity insuring that the local indigenous culture shares in its success.
