When Captain Cook laid eyes on Karitimati (Christmas Island) in the South Pacific on December 24, 1777 he had no way to for-see that in 167 years it would be the location of one of the major battles of World War II. He also had no way to know that it would eventually become one of the most exotic fishing resorts in the world.
Imagine a fly fishing resort located right in the middle of an aquarium that’s filled with saltwater gamefish, and Villages of Christmas Island is it. Once we at Wild On The Fly became aware of this amazing destination we knew that it would have to be included in our catalog of great world class resorts that we could offer to our clients.
Kiritimati (Christmas Island) Island is a fisherman’s paradise. Situated 1,200km South of Honolulu in the Central Pacific, just north of equator, Kiritimati is the largest coral atoll on the planet where the sea and sky provide a backdrop to 250 square miles of white sand, crystal clear aqua hued lagoons, coconut palms and flats that go on forever.
First opened in June of 2006, "The Villages of Christmas Island" has quickly become renowned as the best location and best all-around fishing program on the island. The Villages is nestled among the palm trees overlooking the waters of the atoll’s lagoon. It is only a short ten minute boat ride to the shallow easily waded flats teeming with Bonefish and other exotic tropical game fish. Imagine literally taking a few steps out of the door of your room, hoping into a skiff and within a few minutes be wading the flats stalking Bonefish.
